The History
The history of the winery began in 1959 with the founding of the cooperative winery, which in 1972 became the "Enopolio di Taurasi." The need at the time was to provide many small grape growers with a commercial outlet for their grapes, which would otherwise be sold at prices too low to be profitable. The cooperative winery prevented the uprooting of many vineyards, preserving an ancient heritage of biodiversity and safeguarding the region’s viticultural legacy. This decision is what today allows for vines over 100 years old to thrive, providing grafts for new plantings and ensuring that an invaluable heritage is not lost.
Past
With the 1992 harvest, the winery, which had already taken the name Antica Hirpinia, bottled the very first Taurasi DOCG bottle, numbered 00000001, as a testament to the significance it had gained for the entire region. The bottle is still carefully preserved at the winery.
PRESENT
Today, Antica Hirpinia is a private winery led by a group of three friends who took it over in 2016. They combined their strengths, their vineyards, and their lives to fulfill their shared dream: to produce wines that represent their land and convey their deep passion for it.
FUTUR
To achieve this goal, the partners take on different roles and personally commit to the project, surrounding themselves with skilled professionals who can guide them toward an ever-higher standard of quality.
